| So Im contemplating getting a reloading setup and had a question about 5.56 mil surp ammo. Once your brass is decrimped and swagged out, is it normal priming procedure everytime or are the primers always crimped? |

So Im contemplating getting a reloading setup and had a question about 5.56 mil surp ammo. Once your brass is decrimped and swagged out, is it normal priming procedure everytime or are the primers always crimped? Sir, while I'm not really sure what you are asking I'll offer the following comments: Once fired milsurp 5.56mm brass should normally be full length resized and subsequently the primer crimp should be removed by swaging on a tool such as a Dillon Super Swager or reamed with tools for the purpose such as those marketed by Lyman. Once fired USGI brass in my experience generally also requires trimming after resizing which should also remove any remaining trace of the crimp at the case mouth. In my opinion the trimmed case mouth should also be deburred inside and out and the primer flash hole should also be deburred but there are some that will tell you these steps are unnecessary for plinking ammo. After all case prep steps are complete the case should be reprimed by what ever method provided by the reloading tools you intend to buy. My personal choice is the Sinclair Int. hand priming tool but there are other means that are less expensive including some reloading presses that include a priming feature integral with the press.
