| After going through a batch of .223 brass with my new calipers, I pulled out 9 rounds that were longer than 1.760 inches. I went to trim the cases with my lee lock and cutter, and none of the 9 rounds would fit over my case gauge. They would get about halfway and get stuck, and when I would push them all the way on there was no way to spin them without spinning the case gauge in and out of the cutter. All 9 cases were this way, along with 1 other case, but I've tried probably another 10 that were just fine. Any idea why the necks are so tight? |
| Did the neck expander bushing come off during your resizing operation? Happened to me once. I had to go back through the sized cases and shake them to listen for the bushing in the case. It would be in one of the small neck cases since it didn't get brought back up. |

Or it could be that you have some cases with thick necks. This could be from many firings. Are these range pick ups? Just throwing out a guess. Yes, they are range pickups. Lake City, so there's probably a good chance it has a few firings. If I can't get it over my gauge to trim it should I just throw it out or what? |

Set them aside for now, or recycle. Maybe when you gain experiance, you will figure out what's wrong with these cases. Hard to tell from here. ![]() I just find it very strange because all my brass was run through the same sizing die so you'd think the neck should be the same in all of them. I guess I'll keep playing with it and see |
