How can I tell which brass is reloadable? I'm sure it is a dumb question, but I am eventually gonna start reloading and want to save all my good brass now for later use.....

Recycle any brass that has a Berdan primer and any CCI Blazer brass that's made out of aluminum. Throw steel cases brass away. Every other type of U.S.A. made amunition, either brass or nickle plated is good for reloading

yep, any brass with one primer hole (boxer primed)

Toss Amerc.

Old Federal for .223 Rem is a problem, but the only way to sort it out is by measuring.  Shooting what you have with mild loads is an option, but removing primer crimps is too much work for marginal brass for me.

Boxer primed on the left (reloadable), Berdan on the right.

With rifle cases, shine a flashlight down the neck to determine how it is primed.

Anything that is actually brass and is boxer 0primed can be reloaded.  Like the pic above shows, if there are 2 flash holes it is berdan primed and should be recycled.  Also, CCI blazer is aluminium and should be tossed and wolf, Tula, etc are all steel and should be tossed.

Anything other than that is good to go, although some is better than others.

Why throw away steel case? I have never done it myself, but I have read several reputable reports that it can be reloaded several times before going to the recycle bin. Especially since quite a few folks are using 7.62x39 brass and steel case to make 6.5 Grendel (I am hoping to do the same)

There's tutorial up top about loading steel cases.

Grab every piece of brass you can get you get. Look in trash cans, and under benches. Earn the Title Brass Rat. And learn the phase "hey buddy you picking up that brass?"

You are correct, but personally I don't bother w/ it since x39 is so cheap online and most steel cased stuff is berdan primed, ehich also can be reloaded, but looks like waaayy too much work to do.  especially when there is so much brass out there for decent prices.

ETA: Sorry about the plane smiley, but I just noticed the "icon legend" button and I wanted to see what it did.  Then I saw that cool plane smiley and had to drop it in
