I recently purchased a Sinclaire Lg PPU to see if I could smooth out and uniform the pockets on my LC Milsurp brass, well after using it in my drill at a low speed I can see it does a wonderful job but my question is it necessary to still use a PP brush to get everything out and do I use the uniformer everytime
Thanks |
| Like a swaged or reamed crimp, once it's done it's done. You'll always want to use a p.p.cleaner each future time, mainly so the primers won't have to seat over crud and negate the uniformer's work. In my experience with uniformers, if the pocket is done right, there is no crud left in it, since it's deeper than it was, so no need to follow with the p.p. cleaner. The Sammi pocket depth specs have enough leeway, that with the uniformers I've used, the pockets are uniformed slightly deeper than factory. Check your depths with calipers to see if they're all the same. If not, you're not finishing the job. |

Same here, so that's a +1. |

I use RCBS brushes (since they quit using the thin bristles that quickly turned into a snarled mess)...because it is just as fast and can't "waller.' To the O.P.: I don't know what I was drinking during my first post, but sorry....it's actually readable now....I hate it when I forget to edit. |
| If you are asking is it OK to use the PPU to clean out the bottom of the PP in the brass, the answer is "it depends". Be careful with the PPU, and do not try to get bright metal at the bottom of the PP by using it. The reason is that the new primer may end up sitting too low in the pocket. This can bring on misfires if you are not careful. You want the primer cup surface to sit just below the case head surface .003 to .008. If the new primer sits much deeper, there may be an occasional misfire. I believe the Sinclair PPU depth is adjustable, so do not be tempted to set the depth too low just to get a bright metal bottom in the pocket. |

Rifle along with the power adapter, it's machined from one piece and nothing to adjust (idiot proof for me) I paid alot for it but I feel it will last a lifetime for what I shoot. Sinclair |
