I've smashed up bullets chambering them.  Big, deep dents.

What else am I going to do right?     So I fired them off.

Hit with the rest of the group, go figure

I have a Cam-Lock puller for each caliber I shoot with the proper insert installed and love them, I pulled 300 factory Hornady 40gr V-Max(got 500 left I might just shoot and see how they do) for the brass since the bullet is a little light for my 1:8 twist and it didn't leave a single mark on even one bullet(reloaded the brass with Hornady 75gr BTHP's )

see handloader magazine article last year the writer shot damaged bullets  and almost all shot to the same point of impact out to 200 yards EXCEPT those with a damaged base.

They go to something approximating a "liquid" state while travelling in the bore, so there is nothing lost by reusing bullets.  As you said, the base must be intact for optimum accuracy.

Did you try shooting them, or you just figured they wouldn't work? Try some before you pull any more. They might surprise you.
