I just picked up some 1X fired brass at the range from some guys shooting next to me stamped M193 and the other side 80 which I presume is the year. No other markings. They were shooting AR-15's. I believe it is 5.56mm but it does not say .5.56 or .223 on the case head. I have never loaded anything with this head stamp. Is it Nato spec? It's probably common knowledge but I have been shooting 30 cal. for many years. If one of you knowledgeable guy's would clue me in I would be thankfull. Thanks in advance.

This link will answer your question.  http://www.olive-drab.com/od_firearms_ammo_556mm.php
A search for that round name will give much more info.

I think it's 08, and what you have is Centurion branded ammo brass. Made in the USA, AFAIK. Reviews have been generally favorable. Some say it's loaded to 223Rem specs as opposed to 5.56X45. Most report good accuracy, clean, and sure fire, but obviously lower pressure than 5.56. But since you only have brass, I don't guess any of that matters. Case is labled as 223.

It's good brass, I've picked up and reloaded a bunch of it.

I picked up 35 pieces of it at the range yesterday and was going to ask the same question.

It cleaned up nice and re-sized good in my Redding die, now to trim, prep, and load some up and see how it shoots and last, neck run out is no more than .002" but most is .001" or less so it sized real good.
