Going to start loading 9mm for a glock, for my MIL. I have loaded 40 for a good while now for my glocks and limited dawson gun. I use to load way long for the dawson gun to improve feeding and decrease pressure. Once I sold my dawson gun, I basically tinkered with my OAL until the rounds would properly cycle/feed in the g22/23/27 mags without issue and left them at that length.
I know 9 isn't much of a kicker; however, my MIL is not a stout lady and would like to load her rounds just powerful enough to cycle in her g19 reliably for her to practice with and was wondering what OAL all the glock 9mm shooters out there were loading too. I do not have any mags or 9mm glocks to tinker with to get this just right, so I was wondering what the rest of you used for an OAL. My Speer #14 has 1.169" listed, which I am sure would work fine, but just thought I would ask around a bit here. I am going to be using Win SPP, Solo 1000 and 115 Bosler 115grn FMJ bullets for the moment. I was thinking of starting with 3.8 grns of Solo 1000 and working up from there. Anyone with experience loading 9mm for glocks is more than welcome to chime in. Appreciate the help. |

Are the projectiles round nose?
I load some real light powder puff loads for my G34. They run 100% for me. However, when my girlfriend shoots them in my gun she gets a lot of stovepipes. Must be from limp wristing, even though she is an experienced shooter using a number of different firearms. However, she has no problems with stovepipes with factory ammo in the same gun. My conclusion is that ammo a little bit hotter will be more reliable for someone who might be more likely to limp wrist (MIL) than someone else (you). jonblack |

The MIL is pretty sure to limp wrist I think. The projectiles are RN, sorry left that out. |

Any listed min. load should cycle that Glock. That's always been my experience. I mainly load 115 grn bullets, and with 115 grn FMJ and JHP, my standard OAL is 1.095. Runs great in all my 9mm Glock mags, and all my 9mm Glocks. Thank you, was hoping you would still be around tonight. |
| The longest I load for my 9mm Glocks is using Unique and Bullseye. The min OAL is 1.150, and I usually run around that or 1.155. I have downloaded these .5 grns from start load so that's what I stick with. These all cycle fine and feed 100 %. What powder and bullets will you be using. |

Going to be using Solo 1000, fast burning powder and 115 grn RN FMJ Speer bullets. (checked again, thought they were nolser, but I was mistaken.) I would check on the Speer's book. They have some good load notes. Im not home right now so I cant check my notes or load books. I havent loaded for 115 grn bullets in 9mm but I measured some WWB and they were pretty long. I want to say around 1.160, but thats off the top of my head. I would just see what the min is and go from there. |

I use mainly Titegroup these days, also a relatively fast-burning powder. No problems thus far. Generally, (with regard to OAL) especially with 9mm Glocks........the rule will be to follow your load data, but to make damn sure they're loaded short enough to feed out of the mags reliably. Glocks seem to like things to be "on the short side". |

appreciate all the supplied loads. Big help. Looks like I am going to leave the rounds short and skip my usual practice of loading long. I am going to start with 4.0 grains of Solo 1000. I would like to start lower and work up, but with no 9mm to test them on and chrono with, I think 4 grains will cycle the action fine and still be fairly light. Solo is pretty similar to several of the other powder loads mentioned in response.
Thanks again. |
