Been thinking about getting back into reloading, mainly due to the high cost of factory ammo. MidwayUSA has a nice starter reloading kit on sale for $80 (Lee Challenger single stage aniversary kit). Seems to have all the basics to get started except for dies. Any recommendations for any other starter kit in this price range? Back when I was just a pup my Dad & I used a secondhand RCBS single stage press, RCBS & Lee seemed to be the best manufacturers for 'bang for the buck'. The RCBS 'rock crusher' kit looks really nice, but at $330 it's also a big jump in price. I'm hoping to find a good cheap kit under $150 as a 'birthday hint'. Gonna start simple with .357 revolver rounds but may eventually load .45acp & .44mag as well.

The Lee kit is a good way to get started.  There are plenty of tools and gadgets that can be purchased later on.

This is the one I bought and will admit that I have nothing to compare it to, but I like it so far.  The breech lock fittings are nice, easy to swap out dies.

The one and only complain I have is with the deburring tool it comes with.  If you aren't careful it will put a what I can only describe is a scoring line around the middle of the piece of brass.  I ended up buying a different deburring tool, $10-20 big whoop.

I've loaded .223, .30-06 and .222 on it, gets the job done.

You'll want to add calipers, hornady primer pocket reamer, trays, dies, tumbler/media and you'll probably want to get a Lee universal decapping die too.

I'm quite pleased with the Hornady LNL Classic kit that I got last year. I have since purchased a LNL AP and Redding T-7, but still use all the tools and accessories that came with the Classic kit. I already had digital calipers. I didn't care much for the scale that came with the kit, and the wife unit wasn't pleased that it seemed to vary a few grains while we were dropping charges, so she purchased a very nice Lyman scale for me. Other than the scale, the LNL Classic is great.

RCBS Rock Chucker Master Reloading Kit will do well and last a lifetime.

The RCBS Rock Chucker Master Reloading Kit is first class stuff and the 505 scale that comes with it is pretty much the standard beam scale for reloading

I have the Lee Turret Press kit, Leet turret press kit, I did buy a couple of accessories to get it going (dies, a powder thrower, better scale, tumbler).  I am really happy with it, have made a few hundred rounds and they shoot really good.
