Sharpie in the color of your choosing.

use a sharpie on the head of the brass, no need to mark the bullet, or sort your brass and dedicate one headstamp to the 62 gr'ers

Use a magnet, if they stick then you have the 62gr FMJBTSC, I don't load anything under 62gr myself, and the heavier ones, I load them as I need them prior to the range.

Was a thread on this, guy used a template where just the bullet nose stuck out.

He used a spray paint that matched the color pretty close. They looked good.

Try search, in this forum everyone can use the search function.

New M855 bullets that aren't pulled will NOT be green-the paint is applied at a later step in the process, after the rounds are completed.

And for the sake of accuracy, can we please call these "SS109 bullets?"  The steel insert isn't even hardened; all it does is move the bullet's center of gravity rearward so the bullet flies point-first for longer; it's the plain old "spitzer" profile that does the penetrating (M193 will do it too, but it tends to tumble at longer ranges), not anything within the bullet.

SS-109 bullets. Notice the cut marks in the steel insert made by a hack saw.

With real armor piercing ammo, a file will slip off the penerator not even leaving a mark. It's that hard.

because your going to load them in the magazine  then just mark the magazine with a paint marker, alot easier than marking each bullet

I'm working on setting this up for myself.  I'm going to use a sponge and acrylic paint (the spec drawing for M855 calls for use of acrylic paint with a specific FSC color).

Cut a chunk of sponge that's about 1/2" thick and about 2" square.  Place in a shallow container.  Pour slightly thinned acrylic craft paint (less than $1 at Hobby Lobby, etc.) into the sponge.  Once the sponge is soaked, hold a round by its case and place the tip of the bullet into the sponge about 1/4" (this is per the M855 spec drawing) then twist the round about 180ยบ for evenness.  Let the painted round stand until the paint is dry.

Should work fine; as soon as I get a chance, I'll do this with some dummies and report how well it works.

My magazines are agnostic; they don't care what I load in them.  I'd prefer to select which rounds to put in them by easily determining what's what visually.
