I picked up a few thousand rounds of fairly tarnished brass.  I tumble it and inspected . . . besides the tarnish - heavier on some than others - it looks ok.  being brand new to reloading, I figured I'd ask:

Anyone think the tarnish weakened the case to the point of it being unsafe to load?

Thanks in aadvance.

If it's just discoloration and not actualy deterioration or pitting of the brass, it's fine for loading.

This.  One of the points in cleaning the brass is to make it easier to spot pitting and other abnormalities.  Try the LemiShine trick to remove the tarnish, and re-tumble.

Sweet - thanks gents.  Tarnished but not pitted at all.  It just doesn't look great - but smooth and unpitted.

I'll have about 1,000 cases cleaned and polished by this evening and just need a press a buddy is loaning me as well as the H322 powder.

Have you tried some Lemishine to clean the tarnished brass?

Just happen to have a Link.

The type of tumbling media you use can make a difference.  Wal-nut media works better for getting the tougher stuff clean, but does not leave the shine that corn cob media does.  I normally start with wal-nut media for cleaning, and then give them another ride in the tumbler with corn cob to remove sizing lube and give additional shine.

lemishine!

There may be some pitting hidden underneath the tarnish.

I recently received some 30.06 mil surplus brass off gunbroker, looked like crap.  Was tarnished so bad it looked like wolf steel case stuff.  I soaked it in lemishine then tumbled it for a bit, it all came out looking like almost new.  I found a few that had some deep pitting hidden underneath the tarnish.  I took pics of it all and will post later.

Hopefully we haven't experience PeaK Lemishine.    My wife couldn't find it at the Walmart Super Store this weekend, and the other grocery store she checked didn't carry it.  The Walmart she checked is one with the full blown supermarket layout, different than the older superstores.  She noticed that they have cut out the brand selection for a few other things, too.

That's it. Was really hard to find at my Walmart. Stuck in the Dishwasher additives, but way back on the top shelf. The stock people were hiding it on me.
