With all the talk of subsonics here lately I figured this would be a good topic.

I load subsonic 308 and subsonic 300 Whisper.

I have been aiming to get around 1050 fps and then work on tweaking the loads for accuracy if possible.

I have been recently reading that some people like to try and go below the transonic range which is closer to 1000 fps as there is less noise and you can potentially still get a crack from certain bullet profiles even under the speed of sound.

Any thoughts or comments on if the sound reduction of going below the transonic range outweighs any accuracy or velocity gain by getting as close to supersonic as possible?

The more closely you approach supersonic, the less accuracy you potentially will have.   Once the bullet breaks the barrier, it tends to lose stability.  I try to stay right at 1000 FPS for subs.

I agree with what everyone said on quarterbore.com, but I will go up to 1050 fps because I am going to shoot them before any temperture changes in weather.  Super sonic can have changes as well, but not as much, but will show up at long ranges.  On my Long Range .308 bolt gun I use Varget because it is supposed to be less temp sensitive.  I don't seem to have much trouble out of my .308, 762x39, 9mm, or 300 Whisper in Sub-sonics and don't shoot these past 100yds for hunting.
