| There are a couple of other people that are going to use my press and i got an RCBS lockout die for it for handgun loads. I sat down tonight to play with it some with some 9mm cases. For this demo I my load was going to be 4.5 gr of Unique (the starting load for this batch of handloads). I set the top of the lockout to lock out at 4.7 gr but the lower range lockout is 2.1 gr. Using a compact (G19) or subcompact(G26) handgun, do you thiink the bullet (a 124 gr FMJ-RN) will clear the barrel? will it cycle the slide all the way (stock springs)? |

Using Unique and 124fmj bullets, RP, Speer, Win, and CCI 500 primers 4.5 grains will be a light load barely cycling the slide and velocity will be around 850-875 fps. 4.6 grains will be around 900-925 fps, and 4.8 approx. 950 fps. That's my limited testing in a G19. I'd load up to 4.9 grains of Unique and 124 fmj for a good mid-range reliable 9mm load. I shoot 5.1 grains of Unique for a velocity of around 1050fps in my 2 9mm pistols.
I wouldn't load a lot of test loads at 4.5 but that's a good start load and work up from there. Overall lengths of 1.150-1.160" feeds fine in my G19 with the 124fmj's. |

I guess the hornady manual is just really conservitive. i am going to start off higher becouse it is the G26 we shoot most. |
