| I'm loading 38 special for cowboy shooting plinking.... 158 lead over 4.1gr HP38 ...my question is how low can I go to not get any felt recoil out of my Rugers.....When I watch matches on TV ....they seem to not have any recoil at all...... |

Hodgdon lists 3.2grn of TiteGroup at 815fps and 2.7grn of Trailboss at 661fps for a 158grn lead bullet, however, some of our cowboy action shooters load them even lighter, like down in the 2.3-2.5grn range for TiteGroup and 2.0 and under for the Trailboss. You really have to try out some loads to see what works in your pistol. |

Quoted: As low as you like. When the bullet sticks in the barrel you will have no recoil at all. No joke. Some of our cowboy action shooters load them down so low that you can easily see the bullets leave the muzzle. I shot a couple from my carbine a friend had loaded for his 5.5" bbl SAA and the bullets didn't travel 50yds before they hit the ground. |

I use the largest clear drop tube on the powder measure and watch it carefully since it can bridge easily. |
