I seen some 185 gr. FMJ hollow base .45 auto bullet for sale and I would like to know if these require any special consideration when loading? It would seem that having a hollow bullet would creat lower pressure then a regular FMJ.

Could be the hollow base is to make the bullet longer and help with proper feeding.
I have run into feeding issues with short 185 gr JHP's in 45 ACP. No problems feeding cast 185 gr SWC's in my 45's. I wouldn't think any special techniques would be needed to load them. |

If it's the Berry's hollow base we are talking about they are designed to be loaded to the same length as a regular 230 would be. I like them for that reason alone. |

Here's my theory: When the bullet fires, the pressure causes the base to spread out filling the bore ( there is a fancy term for this . . . something like obdulation?), thus getting a better fit so no gas escapes and the rifleing grabs and spins the bullet better also.
Now having said that . . . my pet load with Berry's 185gr Hollow Base Round Nose is using 6.9gr of True Blue. I use the same OAL as in my 230gr RN . . . 1.260. This load hase given me good function, mild recoil, and excellent accuracy in my 1911's. I don't have a chronograph, so I don't know what the bullet speed is . . . |

something like obdulation?), t obturation, from Obturate. Not to be confused with "obdurate" which means pig-headed or stubborn. |
