My wife decided she wanted a Ruger LCR the other day, which I got for her. After looking around I noticed nobody had any 38spl rounds that were below 75 cents a round. I have a few hundred +P rounds but I am wanting to load up some light loads for her.

I have checked several reloading manuals and I have started loading up the rounds with 4.4grains of TiteGroup with a 125grain SJHP bullet from Remington. The Maximum OAL is 1.550" I have pushed it back to 1.450" and the case is flush with the bottom of the cannelure. I stopped at 1.450" because my Lee manual states thats the Minimum OAL for TiteGroup.

Should I/could I push the OAL down to 1.420" as that would put me right in the middle fo the cannelure for a good crimp? I have looked at factory Remington ammo and they are crimped with just a few .001" of cannelure showing.

Yes, I know that the 125grain SJHP don't perform 100% out of a short barrel 38spl but it should allow my wife to practice

I see no problem with the load or the OAL you are going to use. In 38 special I would not worry about not seating the SJHP to the cant. I would just be sure to put a mild crimp on the bullet and you should be GTG. I shoot a lot of the 125's, let me know how that Tight Group performs...Ed

I agree, any revolver can absorb slight variations in seating depth provided you crimp in the canelure. +/- .015" is no big deal.

I really enjoy sjooting 148 grain lead wadcutters seated flush with the case and 2.7 grains of TiteGroup or 2.8 grains of BullsEye. Low 700 fps velocities and extremely accurate. No kick whatsoever. Great for training and the recoil shy.
