I'm building a new AR for prairie dog shooting from 200 to 600 yards.  My first thought is 1:10 since my current favorite bullets are the Hornady V-Max from 40 to 55 grain and the 40 grain Nosler BT's all from a 1:12 bolt gun.  Since stabalizing anything more than 60 grains from a 1:10 might be pressing my luck, I guess my question is will I need anything longer than a 55 grain varmint bullet for this application.  Thank you for your input.

Do you live in Wyoming?  When was the last time the wind stopped blowing?

Shoot heavy bullets in a fast twist barrel for those 600 yard shots (and all the rest past 250 yards or thereabouts).

In no case would I have an AR with a barrel with rifling slower than 1 in 9, and I doubt I would ever buy another one that slow.
