| Cranked up my LNL AP last night, and loaded up about 35 rounds of .45. I used a ghetto gauge(the barrel) to make sure they'd chamber. I took them to the range, and they shot well. 6.5 grains of Unique, 185 grain Hornady XTP, Federal large pistol primers. Recoil was pretty mild compared to 230 grain hardball. Groups were nothing to brag about, but the Springfield GI isn't exactly known for having excellent sights. A few of the rounds had a little trouble feeding, but again, it's a Springfield GI. I'll probably crank out a few hundred tomorrow. |

The "ghetto gauge" as you called it is problably the best gauge to use when loading for a specific gun. I say this because chambers can vary and a commercial gauge is set to a standard. Usually the difference is in the leade. Chamber diameters are also quite different. I have one .45 with a very tight chamber and on that will eat anything. |
| I have a springfield gi that I reload for, I have probably put more rounds though it than any other weapon I own. I agree the sights arent awesome but after all the range time I have had with mine, I cant shoot one with 3 big mack trucks driving on the top of it. Maybe its just me. |
| You have done well Ron. I couldn't afford to shoot if I didn't reload my ammo. I load my 45 ammo with Unique and a 185 grain Nosler at around 900 fps out of my Kimber TLE. Same round out of the Glock-36 also functions well. I sometimes carry a 9MM when the situation won't allow a 45 but comparing the two to me reminds me of the old slogan, "Ain't no replacement for displacement". |
