Here is some M855 Wolf ammo that I loaded up last night with some demil tips over 19.5g of IMR 4198.

The one off color case is actually an S&B brass case that has turned and won't polish up.  I have about 20 cases (all S&B) that have done this for some reason.  I call them my "tactical brass"

That way when I am shooting all 20 rounds I will never be able to find them!!!

Oh great.

I have had no problems loading Wolf steel cases in 223 and 45 ACP.

Just trouble finding non rusted steels (cases).

Can't call them brass right?

What are you using to deprime the steel cases?

A regular decapping die .... the new polymer stuff is boxer primed.  It reloads just like regular brass ... just a little "stiffer".  As long as the steel cases haven't been sitting for more than a few days on the range then they are good to go.  I even run them through my Dillon 1200 trimmer lol.  Haven't kept up with enough of them to get a good feel for how many times they can be reloaded, but it's nice to be able to get a couple "free" reloads out of what used to be garbage.

I scrounge the brass barrels for steel case 45 at my local range, and will also snag any of the forsaken 223 steel when I see it.

Once, one of the know-it-all range nazis (read: fellow patron, not a range officer) kept telling me throw that back in the bin, that's junk, THATS JUNK!  You can't reload that, that's communist steel JUNK!!!

I'm usually pretty laid back, but I couldn't stop myself from outwardly laughing in his face.  He then had the dumbest look on his face, and kept saying "junk...that's junk".

I'm on my third loading with the 45's.  None of the cases have split yet, so I'm going to keep on keeping on.  I mark each and every headstamp with a divot from a small center-punch after they've been fired.  This way, I know exactly what number loading they're on.  The majority have three punch marks, and who knows, I may run out of head stamp space on some of them.

I haven't had the time to load up the 223 steelies yet.

I'm surprised steel cases aren't more common and used for domestic cartridges.  I've never found enough to bother loading and I never buy ammo for those cartridges.

Wolf and other surplus 7.62x39 is Berdan prime.  If you have ability to and access to Berdan primers, go for it... There was fella here in past that did come into a pile of Berdan primers, and has loaded the WOLF 7.62x39 in the past

I have posted many times on this very board about reloading steel Wolf cases.

To my knowledge all black box Wolf in the following calibers is reloadable.

.223 Rem
.40 S&W
.45 ACP

All Wolf black box in .380 ACP, 9mm Makarov, 9mm Luger, 5.45x39, and 7.62x39 and all Military Classic ammunition uses Berdan primers and should be considered non reloadable.

I love using steel for my reloads as it makes picking up you fired cases a breeze with a magnet.
