Ok, i am working on another set of .223 reloads.  I am still a newb and so far the only bullets i have bought are either Midway's blue boxed ones or surplus privi's from wideners.  I do not have a bullet comparier yet.  I was loading up some of the privi 69 gr OTM bullets and COAL keeps wondering from anywhere between 2.261 to 2.248.  i didn't change any setting in the dies and it is going both up and down as i ran the batch.  is it just becouse these bullets are so different in same between each other that this is happening or am i doing something wrong?  I am using a hornady LnL AP btw.

The overall length of the bullet will vary some, just because of how they are made. Most, if not all, of the variance will be at the nose. Since the seater plug only contacts the bullet on the ogive, all of the bullets will be seated the same in relation to the rifling. IOW, it isn't anything to worry about.

.013" seems excessive, but I've never loaded privi bullets, so I don't know if that's normal for them or not. I would probably start weighing the bullets to make sure there isn't a big variance there.

My experience has been that every brand of bullets will require some adjustment of your seating die to get the right OAL.  Even between batches of the same brand of bullets requires some adjustment.  Consistent OAL is a key to consisntent accuracy and reliability.

Everyone has that problem. It's the bullets and not you or your dies.

For plinking ammo I just let it ride and consider that they are still more accurate for COAL and powder than factory loads.

When I'm making precision ammo I take more time. Each bullet I load, I just twist the seater knob about 1/2 turn (counter-clockwise) to back it out just a little while I just get the bullet 90% in the neck. I measure with my caliper to see how I'm doing. If the bullet needs to go further into the case I'll twist the knob a little more. Remeasure and adjust or start another one.

It sounds complicated, but it's not.

No need to do all that, except to fit the mag, just seat deeper..
For accuracy, it's distance from the ogive to the lands that count and the seater plug does that without adjustment.

It's easy to agree with 'Borg, cause he's right.

thanks, the only problem i had was i had 1 round out of 100 that wouldn't fit in my cmmg mags (it fit in my pmags though) due to lenght.  i just re-sat it a little bit lower to fix it (+ .005)
