I picked up 25 black tip .30 bullets at the gunshow last weekend and I can't find any data for this specific bullet. The guy I got them from said just pull a M2 ball round reduce the charge by one grain and seat the AP bullet. Doesn't sound to safe so I thought I would ask here. I have LC and HXP brass and IMR 3031, 4064.
I found 168gr match king data for the Garand, would this be safe with the AP bullets? Load will be for a Garand. Thanks. |
| I've shot them in a Garand with 46.5 grains of IMR 4895 which is one grain less than I shoot 150 fmj-fb M2 ball. Loads were with RP 9 1/2 primers in LC and RP brass. Overall length at 3.325". They don't cause any abnormal pressure etc. being an AP bullet. Loads for 168 grain bullets should be safe using 4064 powder. My load at 46.5 grains showed no pressure signs at all and actually appeared to be mild. I would try a couple loads and work up to normal loads of 4064 and 168 grain bullets for Garand loading. Velocity I'd try to duplicate would be about 2650 fps for a Garand with the 163 AP's. |

i would use the 25 as a test load.. that way when you find 100 or 500 of them you have some data to work with.
I like to use 48 grains of IMR 4064 with 150gr FMJ. One day I need to chrono the AP's with 46gr IMR 4064 and see how it works... theoretically it should be about right. |

If you don't want your 25, I'll take them. I'd weigh them to verify they're 165 grain, but I worked up my M2AP load for the '06 years ago with help from a good teacher jhud, I haven't seen a thousand .30 AP projectiles in one place in ten years, so if that quantity were available I'd pull the Visa so fast I'd break my wrist. I seem them in lots of a hundred or so in the EE now and then. |

$20 for 25 was the cheapest I could find them at the show. I figured there would be a ton of data on these but couldn't find any out there. They're a lot longer than the bullet I pulled from the HXP. How many more do you want to buy at $20/25? I have many that I will sell at this price. |
