I want to get this straight.  RCBS says this is the way to do it, right?

1.  FL re-size.
2. Trim to 0.02 below max.
3.  Re-szie again, this time with X die set up properly.
4. Tumble, etc., load 'em up and have fun.

Why not skip step 3 and just re-size on the next reload?  Did I miss something?

you don't need to resize all the cases on step 3.  it is just to set up the die after trimming and before firing.

Skip step 3.

If you don't have a dedicated FL sizer other than the X-Die then set aside a few cases so you can reset the die faster.

The only problem with skipping to step 3 is that the primers will still be in the case.

If you use the lee trimmer, you have to remve the primer first.

I've always fl resized before trimming and resizing on the xdie. It's what they recommend so thas what I do. Has anyone tried just skippng to step 3 with successful results?

I skipped step 3, all of the cases gauged properly so it seemed like a waste of time. .308 X-Die BTW.

ETA - I did set the Die but did not do the second resizing.

We are saying to skip step 3, not skip to step 3.

I usually FL resize and reload ( a 50 case lot) of cases once or twice before they all need to be trimmed w/ Lee case trimmer.  After they're trimmed, I use the X-
Die.

Thanks, everyone.  That clears it up.
