Read step 11 on making test loads http://www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=469 |
| Hodgdon owns the IMR powder company, and data is available online: http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp |

There is also load data on this site, but first, how much powder did he give you?
Is it a sealed container? If it's not sealed, is it really IMR4198? Has it gone bad? You must make sure of exactly what you have before trying to load it. There are lots of great folks here that are willing to help you, but safety is numero' 'uno. Welcome to the forum! |

Most all load data is written with a "big Span" as you put it. The first charge is called "Start" or "Minimum" and that is were you "Start". Then you increase the charge in small incriments working you way up to "Max" When at the range you test these rounds by firing the "Start" loads first and work your way to Max looking for signs of pressure and accuracy. What loading manuals do you have? There are some really good one available and reading the front half that deals with the How-To phase of "Safe" handloading is a really good idea. In fact it is a must. |
