I plan on ordering an upper for the 450 Bushmaster...........and plan on relaoding for it.
What are some of the loads people are using? |
|
Yep, got it covered. I have a 20" model that I reload for.
You cannot use certain bullets in this gun. They will not hold together at the velocity the 450 throws them at. Look on hornady's website to figure out which bullets are listed. I use the 250 FTX because I use my loads for hunting. But there are other options, I want to say a 225 and a 300 GR option are also avaiable. I sugget the Hornady dies. They have a separate die for each step and they are easy to set at your tolerance. I like to lightly crimp the cartridge after I finish the load to take some of the flair off the lip of the casing. Hornady's factory crimp die makes loading for this cartridge child's play. I use Lil' Gun as it pulls the highest velocity from the testing and it allows for the most wiggle room when working up a load. Again, Hornady's website has this loading info listed right on it with the proper bullets to use, velocities obtained and powders used. I am still a novice to reloading so you guys might be able to find other powders that are just as suitable to use. The 450 uses small rifle primers so have some of those on hand. I stick to CCI mostly but it dpends on what I have on hand. WIth the combination of 33 GR Lil' Gun and a 250 FTX, I am getting 2"-3" groups at 100 yards. I know this isn't fantastic but for my purpose, its close enough. Starting price- Dies-$55-70 Bullets-$20 per 50 Brass-$40 per 50 Primers-Whatever you can find them at. These prices aren't completely accurate but they should be close. Try Midway, Midsouth Shooter supply, Natchez and any other discount supply site. If you plan to reload, just start with buying the components. Buying the factory catridges will cost about $26 per box if you buy online. They shoot very well but for the cost, just reload. |

I curious about this too, I just ordered an upper and am interested in using pistol bullets for plinking loads. I did find this with a link to loading information from Hornady: http://450bushmaster.net/knowledge/kb_show.php?id=4 Please use caution when trying this. I talked directly to the Hornady tech department and they said the XTP pistols bullets will not hold up to the velocity. But they may have a recipe for using these loads. Let me know if you find something that can be used for plinking rounds. |

What's your speed on that load? Is there any data out there, or is this a shoot and see type of process? |
