Do I have to prepare new Winchester 308 brass when loading 168 or 175 for Precision Rifle shooting?

Yes, new brass is unfired, it's not preped to load.

Some have success loading new brass without prep, but with all the shipping, handling and bouncing it has gotten, you are best served by sizing it....especially for precision loads.

Normally you can neck size only, or even just run a .306" or .305" mandrel down the neck. Those are the smaller manrels marked "NT" for neck turning, avaiable from Sinclair International. It will make the mouth perfectly round. Debur and chamfer.

New brass, bottom 2 rows have mangled necks.

What I do with new brass,

FL resize, trim, debur inside and out and then load.

Measure the OAL of your brass, it's all over the place, also the case necks are not round or square.

For precision loads, I also uniform the primer pockets and debur the flashole.

I have actually seen some worse than those. Process new brass. Always.

If they pass the case gauge, which I have never had one from the major manufactures not, I neck size virgin brass with a collet NS. No need to FLS. This is for a bolt action rifle. For a SA, I do FLS.
