What kind of velocity should I be expecting to get from 69/70 gr. bullets out of an 18" barrel?  I went to the range the other day to test my loads for pressure and was getting around 2700 give or take 100 or so and it seems kind of slow to me.  I don't have an average because I only shot one round of the max charge to check for pressure signs.

What does your load manual say?  Mine says 2760 for a 20" barrel.

That's all you can expect and is probably a load on the hot side.

+1

Vitually all of my match 68/69 loads run 2730 to 2770 from 20" barrels. The same loads only travel at 2550 from my 16" barrels. If your 18" is getting 2700+ fps I would consider dropping the charge 1/2 grain. You may be OK or maybe not. On a real hot day you may be over pressure. What load are you using?

I'm using 24.5 grains of bl-c2 behind a 70 grain barnes triple shock with a cci magnum primer.  The actual velocity for that load was 2666 on my master beta  I had other loads of hornady 69gr bthp match that were around 2700, but like I said they were one shot deals to test for pressure signs so some of them might have been at the high end of the spread.  I have looked at a few different sources and I would have to agree that I should back of a bit.  thanks for the help, I am new to these heavy bullets.
