my dad and i have been reloading our own ammunition since i was 6. Mind you he didnt really let me do much other than de-prime and clean cases until i was about 16. But now, him and i and put together a thousand rounds in an 8 hr day. And at the height of this ammo drought, we were putting together 1k rounds for alot less than a third of the price that PMC was selling it for (.223). On top of all of that the stuff we reloaded, even in bulk shot better than ANY factory stuff ive even ran through any of my weapons. Also most of our pistol stuff we reloaded we put together for alot less than that because we hoarded a bunch of reload supplies when clinton was in office. What im saying is, figure out which one or two calibers you like to shoot most, then run down to wal mart( actually fuck walmart, i dont shop there ever since they endorsed obamacare)run down to bi mart, or look online and find yourself an RCBS starter kit. then go out and get your caliber specific parts. and there you go. teach your kid how to do the mindless stuff (if hes into shooting) and poof your an ammo factory. The only obstacles i have run into is having to wait for primers and powder SOMETIMES. we waited a ridiculous 5 months for a jug of power pistol, but i think that was due to a mistake at the place we ordered, and they wouldnt admit it. THAT is the solution to high ammo prices. Reloading is boring, and it takes patience, but its worth it when your shooting .223 for .17-.20 cents a round. |
| Sir, I think most of us here recognize the economic potential of reloading, and most also recognize the possibility of improved accuracy. I can't say that I started reloading as young as you but I can say that I've been at it for over thirty-five years. While the actual process is somewhat tedious and repetitive the benefits can be quite rewarding when you can cover all your shots with a dime at two hundred yards in the match or your dreams! Years ago I used to think ammo in excess of $.05/round was expensive and overpriced and I still do. When I want really cheap ammo I just use cast bullets that I made from scrap. How's that for cheap?. JMHO, 7zero1. |

Quoted: this post was in response to another post i read about the inefficiency of reloading. casting bullets is one thing ive always wanted to do, it compliments my frugal nature oh so well. Many of us have found reloading to be a welcome new hobby. To each his own but I'd rather 'waste my time' saving 80% of the current cost of ammo than 'save' that time just to blow posting on talk sites. |
