Can you really use common finger nail polish to seal the primer on a loaded ammo?
I remember reading about using clear finger nail polish to seal primers.
Do they really work?

Well there is commercial primer sealant available:

I got some "primer sealant" from MidwayUSA a while back, and upon opening the outer package a small bottle of clear nail polish was in there. The only difference between that and the stuff women use is the label.

Edited to add:  This is the stuff I got. The cool olive drab container simply contains a tiny standard type womens nail polish bottle.

Now do you apply to the very edge of the primer, where it makes contact with the case?

On my hunting loads I often take some of my wife's nail polish and just paint a ring around the edge of the primer.
Sometimes I "color code" the different loads.

It's a waste of time for most shooters unless you're hunting where you expect your ammo to be submerged or wet all day long.

If you really want to seal your primers, use standard nail polish (or nitrate airplane dope, if you can find it) and thin it until it's very watery.  Apply it to the junction between primer pocket and primer with a fine paint brush, or something else that will only allow just a tiny bit to be transferred-I use a thin wire bent into a loop.  I can find "real" colors of nail polish at the local supermarket under the "NYC" brand-I have found red, blue, green and purple without metalic stuff, and it costs 99ยข a bottle.  Use lacquer thinner to thin the nail polish, either from the supermarket cosmetics aisle or from Lowes or Home Depot (pints at the building supply stores cost less than 5-6 oz bottles at the supermarket).

The only "practical" use I have for primer sealant is to help identify my reloads.  I use a Sharpie to mark primers, but it's helpful to also have a color code for things like which cases were used with which bullet.
