Anybody reloading this w/ some kind of SP/HP projectile?
I see there's an 85gr. XTP- I wonder if you could pull the FMJ from surplus ammo, replace it w/ the HP, and have relatively cheap and relatively hot HP ammo... Anybody ever try it? |

Try 8.0 of Blue Dot under the 90 gr XTP w/std spp.............Accurate out of my '54 CZ & explosive as hell on small game.
Same load with hard cast 100 grain RN, lubed w/alox & sized to .308. Both those loads give me ragged one hole groups at 15 yds & both will ring steel all day at 100. Tried BE & Unique but the BD worked best for me...........all functioned 100% tho................Also tried sabots with various powders and never could get reliable function.............won't even repeat some of the loads as I KNOW they were way, way overpressure. Generally, if you stay with the SAME or lesser bullet weight you ought to be OK with your proposed bullet change.............tho most of the surplus stuff IS corrosive! |
