Anyone using IMR 3031 for .303 Brit? Was starting to compile load data and saw that this was used with 180 gr. soft points (Speer Hot-Cor) starting at 37 gr. Will be using Federal Large Rifle Match primers, once fired greek HXP-70 brass and the above powder and bullets. Any experience with this load? |

This will be my first reloading experience, and the 3031 is all they had at the shop that was listed in the Speer book. My Lymon book only shows it used up to 150 gr. soft points. Also, what is the opinion of the Speer Hot Cor bullets? Once again, it was the only thing they had in stock. Will end up using them for black tail deer if they are decent hunting bullets. |

Sierra manual lists 34.3 as start load (2100fps) and 38.8 as max load (2400fps) with the 180 grain bullets.
You probably don't want to shoot max loads with a .303 if you want your brass to last more than 2-3 firings. Most Enfields will have problems with incipient head separations if you use max loads. This powder/bullet combo isn't listed in my Speer manual (#12). |
