I finally get my hands on some small rifle primers, my brass is all prepped and ready to go.  The only thing slowing down my reloading is filling up those damn primer tubes on the Dillon 550.  Any tricks or equipment that can keep that primer tube filled?  Do most people just have a bunch of loading tubes and clip them off so they can just keep cranking and reload without having to stop and reload?

Any problem can be solved with the proper application of $$$.

That's what I do.  I have about 5 tubes.  After using those, I am ready for a break.

I made a wooden block to hold the filled primer tubes.

Pic was taken just before I was filling #8.

Loading 9mm on SDB here. I use the same block with my 550.

The wooden block idea I got from CoSteve or AssaultRifler, a couple of the Dillon experts around here.

Hang on. Is that thing seriously $300?  I think I'll get some extra tubes. :-)

Extra tubes are fairly reasonable, the auto loader is too steep for me

+1,

I've got 15 small and 10 large, load them up while I'm listening to the radio or watching tv a day or two before I plan to begin loading ammo, stand them in a piece of 3" pvc.

look at this.  i use it and can fill a tube with a hundred primers in about 30 sec max.  only 32 bucks to boot

I have more tubes than what's shown in the pic, but basically 15 large and 15 small primer tubes.  Don't store primers in them for long periods of time, only ahead of time for a current reloading session.

Two reasons: basically they're small pipe bombs and it's never good to have those laying around if you're not doing a current reloading project and secondly you might forget if there's small pistol or small rifle primers for example, in the small primer tubes

More tubes are better......
I just load a few extra up before I start & then crank `till they run out. No biggy really. Love watchin that bin fill up with ammo!

Try this.  A modified Lee hand primer with a vibrator.

Didn't someone post how to modify just about anybody's primer tubes to work with the Dillon tube filler? And didn't someone else post where to get "the right tubing" to make primer transfer tubes?  I think that sort of info would be VERY helpful to have handy.

I just stay on top of my empty brass to the point were I'm never really loading more than a hundred or so rounds at a time.  I load after every shoot.

I could get away with only having 1 primer pick up tube.  I've gotten away from the thrill of high volumes of ammo flowing from my machine and am now more interested in low volumes of high quality ammo.
