First let me apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere or recently - search over the past 30 days netted no results for me. Secondly, this is not meant in any shape or form to start a 'Urinary Olypiad'.
Recently acquired a Honady LNL AP. My intent is to load some 45ACP brass that I've been hoarding for years, and my mounting pile of .223. Have the dies for both, and enough of the other components to put at least a dent in it. For years I've loaded shotshells on progressive (PW), and metalic cartridges on a single-stage (Rockchucker). Loading metallics on a progressive will be new to me, hence my question. Which is preferred, the Hornady Powder Cop or the RCBS Lock-out Die? |

Which is preferred, the Hornady Powder Cop or the RCBS Lock-out Die? I use the Hornady Powder Cop and I think it is an Easy Solution that solves an age old progressive reloading issue and by that I mean Squib Loads and Double Charges. I like the Powder Cop because not only does it give me a visual focal point when reloading and tells me if I the measure either didn't charge the case or charged it too much. The Powder cop also can help to indicate variations in the powder charges and give you heads up as which cases to check the charges on. The new lockout die sounds nice for reloaders that don't want to pay attention at all to the reloading process and just wants to pull the handle. Reloading for me is about more than just pulling the handle it is about building a quality round and building quality control into every process. |

I use the Hornady Powder Cop on my LNL AP and don’t have any problems with it. Any powder discrepancies, too little or too much, you'll notice the rod ridding either too high or low.
There is an o-ring that rides on the rod that should be flush with the top of the die if the charge is correct. |

It appears that in order to use the Dillon system, part of the head of the press needs to be machined out to allow the activation rod to clear and contact the shell plate. May consider that in the future, but for now I'm looking to make a decision between the Powder Cop from Hornady or the RCBS Lock-out Die. |
