I have a lee reloading kit.  My problem is the setting die.  I screw the die to the shell plate then back out 3 turns as it says in the manual.  Then i put shell and bullet in and i crush the case.  I have adjusted all the way down.  Do i need to turn it 2 and a half turns instead of 3?  Thank you.   Sorry loading 45acp with horandy 185gr hollow point remington brass

First - Go back and re-read your Lee Die instructions.   Pay attention to the instructions concerning your bullet seating die.

The center knob on the bullet seating die should not be adjusted all the way down.   It has to be adjusted to establish the correct seating depth of the bullet.  Turn the center knob counterclockwise so that it's higher than mine in the picture below. The seating die is the one closest to the camera (right over the "A" in acp).

Note how high the center knob is adjusted.  Once you've got it adjust that high, place a bullet on an empty case and operate your press.  Then adjust the center knob clockwise to seat your bullet to the correct height.

Here is how I set mine for pressing the bullet in.

I take a loaded or finished dummy round.

Unscrew/ back out the center of the die as far as I can. The put the loaded round in the press.
Pull down on the lever.
Then I start screwing the center in till I can't do it anymore by hand.
This is with the die fully screwed down to the press.

The I take an empty shell casing, no primer and no powder.
Put a bullet in and seat it. Measure the oal.
If it is too long, screw in the center about 1/2 a turn and hit it again with the press till I get the correct oal I want.
Then do it again with a fresh empty case and bullet to be sure the oal is correct.

Same thing with the crimp die, except I go ahead an turn it about qtr turn each time till I get a good crimp.

As Steve says the adjustment knob needs to be backed out. I don't set the die itself to any particular number of turns above the shell holder. As long as you don't contact the bullet with the adjustment knob backed off most of the way and have a long range of adjustment with the knob, not the die body, it will work fine. Look at it and you will see how it works.
