I'm loading up some 30-06 on my Dillon 550. using Hornday dies for the bullet seating.
Brass has already been cleaned, sized, preped so all I have to do is seat a primer and load. Problem is I get spilled powder while loading (Hodgen H380) I looks to me like after the powder is dispensed on the upstroke and I lower the ram I get a little powder dropping on the shell plate. Not a lot, but it builds up and causes problems. Any Ideas on how to fix ?? I have started to do a double tap on the handle while the ram is up, but still get a little spillage ... FLUFF |

You have to give the powder a chance to drop from the measure into the case. I've found that all necked rifle cases require a 'count of one' pause at the bottom of the stroke to give time for all the powder to drop into the case. I do the pause thing but as I said recently in another thread, a friend stops at the bottom of the stroke to pick up his next bullet, then finishes his upstroke. Seems to work for him. |

1. re-adjust powder die so that powder bar just completes it's stroke to the right when operating the ram. Or follow Dillon instruction manual for setting it.
2. test 3. if # 1 no worky - put an extra spring around the dispenser base \ powder bar end 4. test 5. if # 3 no worky - remove powder dispenser and look for grease around powder die, insert, and internals of dispenser. Be sure to ground it to get rid of static. 6. test 7. change powder and try again. |
| +1 on what CO Steve says. Give the powder time to drop out of the bar and thru the funnel into the case. Slow your downstroke when activating the powder bar so it takes at least one full second to move the powder bar from one side to the other. Also, take a cotton swab damp with alcohol and clean the interior of the funnel, as case lube buildup can cause powder to hang up in the funnel. |

I'm not familiar with H380 powder. Is it long extruded? You might look for a powder that dispenses easier. I've heard Ramshot has been working up some good loads with TAC for 30-06. Just off the top of my head because I know it pours real easy with the Dillon 550 for my 5.56 loads. Win 741, 4895, H335, among others pour real well too, but I'm not sure of their applications with 30-06, or if you are loading for a Garand and need to stay within certain limits...

have had the same problem with H335 in 308 win...
here is how I cured the problem. H335 is very fine, and drops slowly, it just takes a few seconds to drop. pause at the bottom of the stroke for 2 seconds, lift about 3-4 inches, pull down sharply on the fail safe rod. anything hanging on will be shot down the tube. TADA, no spilled powder on the shell plate !!! |

H380 is spherical. |
