Does anyone load for this round and have you tried the new Hornady DGS and DGX bullets? What was your preferred powder and opinions etc?

No, but welcome aboard.

I have a Mod 700 BDL in .458 Win Mag. I do not see the need to reload for this gun. The gun is not a long range shooter. I dont shoot it enough to warrant reloading for it. Factory ammo is good enough. 510 gr Solid will do the trick on any land mammal. Plus, the thing hurts like hell to shoot it.

Thanks for the welcome!

I have been reloading since 1986, and just find it interesting. You can hit on a particular load combination that really shoots well and also load reduced for target practice. The money saved also allows you to shoot more and become more proficient.

You should post this question on castboolits.gunloads.com and you'll get plenty of help.

Actually, A 458WM is a great candidate for a lower power load with a lead boolit.   Something like the 425 grain ranch dog mold with a reduced load of IMR 4198 or IMR 4227 should work great for reduced recoil plinking loads with this big round.

I will send you some 425 RD's for the cost of shipping and a couple bucks for lead if someone over there has a good load to try with this boolit.

Here's about 80 of these 425 ranch dog boolits without gas checks.

The load works great in my .450 Marlin.

I use 20 Grains of Alliant 2400 and it goes around 1250 FPS.   Hardly any kick and it still shoots good out to 50 yards or so.

If you want to dial up the power level, put a gas check on it and go crazy.   :)   I have shot 350 grain lead slugs with gas checks up to 2000 FPS out of my marlin with no problems.

Plenty of folks on AR15.com are pretty clueless when it comes to the big bores.

Yea, guilty here.

For me a big bore is a 338 Win mag.

I do reload with a friend for his 45-70.

Nice looking bullet there. I used to own a Ruger #1 some years back and used to load some 500gr Lee cast bullets (ended up as 525gr) and they where a blast to shoot!
