| Who uses TAC for .223? I just picked up a batch and am going to give it a shot with 60-69g bullets in my AR. What is the general consensis regarding this powder for accuracy, pressure and overall use? Search only pulled one thread with not much info. |

Quoted: I use it with 62gr SS109 bullets and it is not bad at all. For Hornady 68 gr bullets it was not great, but the same bullets shoot fine with Varget. I use TAC with both Hornady 62grn and Hornday 68grn bullets in my 20" 1:9 with excellent results. My 68grn loads shoot just below 1 MOA even at 300yds. They probably would go tighter, but with a 12x scope and 61yr old eyes, that's the best I can do. |
| I like TAC for a real good general purpose powder for 223, 308 and 30'06. Varget seems to give slightly better groups using 69/77's in my 1:8 twists, but for anything under 100 yards, I don't see a difference other then the hit on my wallet. My rainy day stash always has a large jug of TAC. |

I have not had great luck (accuracy) with it and 55gr FMJ pills.... but its plenty good for plinking/short range practice loads. A stout charge of TAC with a 60gr V-max on top shoots well in my rifles. |

I use 23.5 gr with the Hornady 75 gr HPBT-M bullet. It yields significantly higher velocities than 24.0 gr of Varget without the attendant signs of excessive pressure. What velocities are you getting out of what type/length of barrel? Are you getting good accuracy? Just asking because TAC is easy to find.... |
| I picked TAC up because it was very easy to find and is a bit cheaper than the rest. So far I have found that for me H335 outshoots Varget for 68g Hornady HPBTs. H4895 outshoots both varget and H335 for 52g BTHPs. All shot out of a RRA 24" 1-8 twist varminter. I have not tried sierra 69g yet that everyone raves about but I do like the sierra 65g spitzer BT. |

My recollection is I get about 150 fps more using TAC than Varget. It is true for my 16" barrels and my 28" barrel. This is for a Varget load that is at or very near the reasonable max pressure (very FLAT!, almost mushroomed primers), whereas, the TAC loads are faster with no signs of excess pressure (normal primer appearance, round corners). If I find the data book, I will post it. One of my loads is posted in the reloading sticky thread. |
