So I wanna polish up my brass and don't want to spend a ton on corn cob media. I bought a bag of "natural Corn Cob small animal bedding" but the kernals are pretty big (3/16"-1/4"). I tried running it through the food processor, but it turned the bottom layer to dust and didn't do shit to the rest. Can I just run it as it is? I know it will sometimes get stuck in .223 necks, but is that the only problem? Also, is it supposed to be rock hard?
Please advise. |

Find a local "Sand Blast" supply shop, I bought a 50 lb bag for 12 bucks. Any size grit you want. |
| Use the crushed walnut for your initial cleaning then size your brass. After sizing use actual corn cob tumbling media to polish your brass. By doing this your corn cob media will last longer because your are not using it to clean the brass and so you won't get as much crud in the media. Also take a dryer sheet and cut it into little 3" patches and throw the patches into your tumbling media. The dryer sheet pieces will actually collect a lot of the crud that is floating around in your tumbling media. You can replace the dryer sheet pieces after a couple of uses and put in fresh pieces. |

This is my plan of action. I'm at the polish phase and am lacking good corn cob.... |

The answer to your question: The stuff you have will NOT work for polishing brass. It will not "stick in some of the .223"––it will stick TIGHT and be VERY difficult to remove. Your efforts to save money have failed. I'd encourage you to get the right stuff. ![]() Beekeeper is absolutely right, corn cob bedding will stick in all the cases and ruin them. I learned this from experience when I tried to save a little and it ended up costing me because I had to throw out all the cases I tumbled along with the useless corn cob bedding. |

There's a few of us that have been down this road. Hours of trying to get that large cob out of cases will leave a very lasting impression. The last time I tried this was twenty years ago and never had the urge to try again. |

Zilla lizard litter. Crushed english walnut shells. Petco. They just have 10 quart bags at my Petco stores. Those are $10. Where do they have the big cheap bags? Do you have to ask for them? Don"t know about larger bags but 10qt bags were only $5.99 on sale at mine last month so I picked up 3. Thats enough for my volume for a while. |

Grainger also has blasting media. I just picked up a 40lb bag of corn cob media for $25. If they don't have it in stock they can usually have it there the next day if you ask. Which grit did you get? Grit numbers are always confusing to me. 20/40 The size is very fine. No way it's going to plug flash holes or anything. |

I bought some to when I started. I have since found some fine corn cob and saved the big stuff for .45 acp. It works fine there. That's a good idea! Don't forget to add two cap fulls of Nu-Finish to the media for 10-15 minutes before adding the cases. For that new shell shine.
Already got it. Ironically I learned that tip from the same ARFCOM thread that suggested the pet store corncob.....
