OK, I am new to reloading, to be exact I have not yet reloaded my first round.
I have 3500 rounds of .223 brass that my local range owner gave to me, so I thought what the heck. I have purchased a Dillion CV-2001, Dillions Case lube and polisher, and Dillions corn and walnut media. I also have a media separator as well. I have several reloading manuals and a couple of how to DVD's, one RCBS and one Dillion. I plan on purchasing a 650xl as I believe I have a pretty steady source of used brass. Where I am stuck is with the determination of what cases to keep and what cases to throw out. Here is one example, there are some cases that have a slight dent in the opening on the neck of the case, are these ok to reload. Is there anyplace that shows pictures of good vs. bad? Thanks in advance for the help. |

Depending on how bad the neck is dented. Sometimes, just by running them through the de-capper/sizer die.........it will be enough to iron it out.
Sometimes, you may want to use a punch for a little gentle persuasion to iron things out a bit. Before, going into the die. You decide how much time you want to spend on it. Aloha, Mark PS.............there was a thread w/ a bunch of pics that described the process with the punch. Perhaps, it was in the tutorials? Or, maybe someone might be along shortly............to provide a link. |

Sizing die for slight dent, tapered punch (like a center punch) push by hand, then resize. Is there anyplace that shows pictures of good vs. bad? Reloading manuals, Hornaday, Sierra, Nosler, Speer. Thanks in advance for the help. Read your manuals, you don't want to be the guy who posts " loaded 500 rounds that won't chamber, what do I do?" Top of the page, read the FAQ's and tutorials. |
