Hi all,
I've been reloading on a turret press for the last 6 or 7 years and I think the time has come to up-grade to a progressive press. I'd like to stay with Lee products...dunno why, just because. Anyway, is the Loadmaster THAT much better than the Pro1000...ie: worth just about twice as much. For what it's worth, I'm loading 9mm and 45acp and will be loading 40 and 223 when the dies arrive (and the bullets and the powder and the primers). Anyway, I want a progressive, want decent quality, but don't have a bunch of cash to spend right now. Thanks, KA |
| I have the pro 1000, and I really like it. The 1k is 3 stage only. If you want to include a factory crimp, or post size the 1k will not do that. I do a lot of pistol, so the 1000 works good for me. I also like to crimp my rifle loads, so it does add another step. |

Cant say anything about the Pro as I never had one..The Lee Classic Cast Turrent I have works fine... I use it still for small batches of various rounds..
The lee Loadmaster is a piece of plastic parts laden junk that Wally world would be proud to import from china and that is putting it mildly.. YMMV I got rid of the one I had and spent a little more to get a Hornady LNL AP and with the 1000 FREE .45 XTP bullets I got made the deal even sweeter.. Works great.. No plastic crap parts to mangle/break.. Bottom line: You want a press you can pass on to yer kids and grandkids get a LNL, Dillon or other quality press.. You want el cheapo crap get the lee.. I have two of the pro 1ks and love em. I only load pistol on mine so someone else will have to chime in on loading the .223s. For my money you can't go wrong with most Lee products and definitely on the pro 1K. I fought the same decision you're making but have never regretted it.

IMHO.........evaluate how you like to do things.
Then choose the press that will suit you. I use three LEE M1000s (pre Pro 1000). Each machine is in a different pistol caliber. It's no fun to change parts to load up a caliber. I just switch the machine on the bench. But, that can get expensive. Then there was another thread about a week back that actually had some folks changing parts on their Pro 1000s to make them BETTER.........funny but, the mods brought their powder measures back to the old LEE M1000 style. Oh well. Aloha, Mark |
| If your thinking of the Loadmaster go ahead and get a Hornady LNL, consensus is it's a much better press and with the 1000 free bullets it actually comes out to the same price or even cheaper than the LM. If you don't need to crimp separately I can see where the Pro1000 is is a valid option due to the low price. |

Get the loadmaster, theres lots of naysayers that will tell you get the dillon or LNL and spend all your money ( they are probably the same people that say buy a colt and nothing else) Some people will say it takes time to set up and they cant figure it out, i say if you cant figure it out you have no right reloading in the first place.
good luck finding reloading supplies and happy hunting for them! Finding the supplies is a great feeling. |
| I have 2 1K's amd love em Ive loaded over 20k worth of rounds on them I did upgrade the pro auto disk to the spring return instead of the chain return and it works awsome I do use the Lee dies for a taper crimp. it does take a bit of experminting with your seating lengths vs die placemtn but it works flawless now. I prefer to have a couple 1Ks vs a single progressive press because i dont want to change the set up. I have tried loading 223s with it but it just seems a little harder to do it, I prefer the Lee classic turret press. I can crank out a round every 7 seconds so time really isnt an issue |

I have a Pro 1000 that I use for 9mm, 38 Spcl, 45 ACP and sometimes .30 Carbine. It works great for the pistol calibers, but it is almost to hard with .30 Carbine as it takes a lot of effort to resize and thats with lubed cases and carbide dies. I tried .223 with the Pro 1000, but I wasn't satisfied as it is harder to resize and I use a lot of Varget, so the auto disk powder measure is out of the question. The Pro 1000 really shines in 9mm with case feeder and automatic bullet feed. I have never used a Loadmaster.
