My pilot on my case trimmer will not fully sink into the neck of some .223 cases, and yet on other 223 cases it works like a charm. All the brass is from the same manf. and has been decapped and sized. What could be causing this?

The only thing I can think of is that the necks have gotten thick from brass flowing forward as a result of firing and reloading. you may need to purchase a .224 neck reamer for your trimmer to make the inside neck diameter uniform.

Check your primer hole. Sometime depending on your brass the holes are undersize.

Brass is springy, when your expander ball pulls out the brass is springing back to a smaller size. If you have the ability it may be a good time to anneal your case necks.
