Im looking for a good and inexpensive powder for my .45acp practice loads.  I just picked up some Berry's 185gr hollow based round noses. Want close to factory velocity but a little light is ok.  Im just looking for some thing to get a similar load to factory but cheaper

I load heavier bullets so my advice may not be right.  A cheap ultra fast powder like red dot, solo 1000, bullseye, clays,  will make a 8lb keg last longer and is cheaper to start with.   You have to deal with the increased chance of blowing up your gun from overcharges.

I've never used anything but W-231.

i load  4.5 grains of winchester wst with a 185 grain nosler jhp and it is a sweet load not hard damn accurate using in a kimber cdp pro 2 , colt combat commander  and a springfield 5" 1911 no problems , always feeds also using winchester large pistol primers
byt as always this is not fact it just works for me
thanks

Titegroup is relatively cheap and goes a long way.

It is faster then some other powders and can be snappy and smokey but it works well for 185s.

892 fps is power factor for 185s so I load about 5.2 grains of TG which gets me roughly 930 fps with LSWCs.

Some people find TG to burn hot and flame around the bullets in the chamber but the gun still functions fine.

I use Bullseye with my plinking 230 gr lead rounds. Works well. The Bullseye is the least amount of powder used by any powder, and is one on the lowest purchase cost. usually less than 100.00 for 8lbs....

I like Titegroup just fine for this.  Used it alot.  Cheap, and a little goes a long way.

I don't mind the soot on the cases with the light to medium loads.

I'm old school. Use Bullseye in my .45 1911.
4.5 - 5 grns goes a long way.

Ditto, 5.0g Bullseye under a 230 LRN lit with a CCI 300. Bullseye meters well and is pretty cheap.

45acp will work decent with a wide range of fast powders.

Home run for cheepness is finding someone who gave up on loading trap or skeet loads (shotgun) and has some 8 lb kegs for cheep.
I have grabbed  Bullseye in the past and am presently working on a keg of 700X that was free!

I use clay, just plain old clays. Cheap and it can be loaded in a wide varity of rounds.

I've used all three with good results. I've actually been meaning to try Bullseye in my current 200gr loads I use for competition (which are currently using WST).
