I just got a new to me uniflow II powder flow and set it up to throw some charges tonight. It would not come close to measuring the same charge twice. I pulled it apart and cleaned it thoroughly, reassembled it and ran about 40 more measurements and still had the same swing in variations( +/-1 grain or more) I used the same motion as consistent as possible. Any thoughts or am I expecting more out of this measure than it can provide?

I am trying to throw 5 grains of bullseye into a .45 acp
The cylinder is not gnashed or pitted.
The stroke is smooth with an abrupt stop at both ends.
the powder is not clogging in the funnel

thanks for your reply

What powder are you throwing? Slow burning spherical powders don't meter too well.

The powder being longer tends to get cut in the measure leading to variances in weight.

If you're throwing ball powders and can't get consistent weights, then you might have a problem

edit to add.

Are you using the small or the large metering screw?

large screw. bullsey powder. I believe it is cutting some throws.
a powder baffle was suggested in another thread.

Do you have the right drum assembly in the measure?  IE the small one?

There are two made, some measures only come with one versus both.  Consistency of operation is the key.

You should be getting + or - .1 gr, or .2 at worst.

Powder hopper at least 3/4 full?

Powder is settled? Sounds like it from your post.

More guesses,

PM mounted securely, no wiggle while throwing?

Static electricity? Does powder cling to hopper?

If so, get a dryer sheet and wipe down whole PM several times.

Pay particular attention to the plastic parts.

Good luck.

I'd bet you have the large (rifle) rotor in it––that won't work with tiny pistol charges.  As above, you should be within +/- .1 gr.

^^yup, prolly has the large cylinder installed. My old Uni-Flow w/small cylinder will throw Bullseye to within .1g all day. I use the baffle too. I have the large cylinder also, but the small one works fine for .45acp and .223 powder throwing chores.

That is the problem. He states that it is the large stem a few posts up from your post.He will need the small drum and metering screw.

Yep this measure only has one drum. To be exactly sure what is the dimensions of the of the small / large drum??

Small rotor Dia. is approxiametly 7/16th in Dia.

Large rotor Dia is .685" in Dia.

I'd have to disassemble both of my Uniflows to get an exact Dia.

Hope that helps

Turns out that I have the small drum. I used a #2 pencil and polished the drum and hopper a long with a 5/16 fender washer as a baffle. Success!! consistent throws over and over.

Thanks for the ideas
