| Following the instructions I think I have it set up correctly but damn it takes a hell of a lot of force to work it! This can't be right. What am i doing wrong? |

Be sure that the primer pocket and the swager bit are lined up - I've noticed that on occasion that the bit doesn't line up and you end up putting a dent in the base of the cartridge. I just purchased my Dillon swager and it is effortless. I set it and for cases that are too long or short, I put to the side then adjust the rod to swage those. Maybe you could post a pic or two? |

i already know what your problem is, you need to grease it up a little. Its the same problem i had a couple of weeks ago when i got mine.
i posted the same question but i cant find the link to it right now since im posting this from the backdoor site (no searching) basically just take apart the handle and punch out the large pin and grease the gold part it should solve your problem (do a search for my screen name and you will find the thread, another member posted pics of where to lube) |

| It's lubed up fine. I am doing .45acp brass. I have the adapter screwed on to the case locator rod and I am using large swage rod. I did have a little trouble getting things lined up but once I got that taken care of it still didn't fix the problem. I'm about to chuck it. |

It sounds to me that you have the large case rod adjusted too long. Knocking the crimp off of the edge of a case is so easy with the mechanical advantage of the ram that it doesn't feel like you're doing anything. If cycle gets hard towards the end of the downstroke, you have the rod out too far so that you are in effect trying to compress the case base material. |

So what kind of gap should there be between the case and the back up plate? I have mine set so that there is just enough clearance for the case to slip into position. i wouldnt base it off of the gap, perhaps back it out a little and see if that helps with the force, and then try seating some primers. |

I make manual adjustments with each stroke for each case. Using Mil. brass i notice lots of variations in the WEB. So i adjusted the lever arm to be about 4 lbs.(Guessing) at 3/4 stroke of the lever. So now i may stroke all the way (rarely) or most at 3/4, and some about 2/3 stroke. You do not want much of it removed, just enough to roll the crimp out.
Mine was purchased back in 87' i have done about 20,000- 25,000 this way Hope this helps GMan |
