What is the difference between a turret press and a progressive press?
What type is preferred?

Simply put, the turret press processes a single case progressively by turning the turret with the dies in it.  Advantage - You don't have to change dies.  Disadvantage - for every pull of the handle you perform a single process on a single case so if you have 4 dies you need to pull the handle 4 times to make a single bullet.

A progressive press has the die set stationary while a sheelplate holding empty cases rotates to position a case at each reloading step. For every pull of the handle you perform progressive steps on all the cases at the same time.  Once you have all of the stations filled, for every pull of the handle you decap and resize a case, fill another case with powder, set a bullet on another case, and crimp another case to produce a finished round.  Advantage - much faster and easier as you continue to load a case into
the first station and it is rotated in turn to every following station
until the round is completed and it falls into a finished round bin.
