Does anyone know what kind of powder is used in Federals XM193? I pulled a bullet from a Lake City 08' case and measured 27.5 grains of powder. The powder looks like H335. Anyone know?
Also 27.5 grains seems like a hefty charge when my hornady manual shows 23.2 grains as a max load with the same bullet. Anyone have info?

It is supposed to be a proprietary mystery mix of several different powders.

Can we order that powder Zhukov? Also is 27.5 grains a heft charge?

Sometimes you can find it as "pulldown" powder. 27.5g is a hefty charge, and I consider it a "magnum .223" but this is in the Army Ammunition manual.

yeah I pulled a bullet from a 08' case and weighed it with my hornady scale and it came out to 27.5 grains. I was wondering why my reloads didn't have the same recoil as XM193 thats because there was a whopping 27.5 grains in it verus my 23grains of H335 in my reload.

The powder in any commercial or military loaded ammo isn't necessarily something us mere mortals can lay our hands on.
Reason tells me that much of it is but I wouldn't know how to tell.

You can weigh it and look at it with a glass or microscope but it could be similar looking to some available powder but still have a different burn rate

This would be great info to have but I can't see any of the big boys handing over that info.

I thought they used BL C2 for the military loading? Or was that for 7.62 Nato?
