I have an AR with a twist rate of 1/9 I know that a 1/9 twist can stabilize rounds that are between 50-69 grains, some can even stablize slightly heavier bullets.  I have been searching google and this board to see if I'd be able to shoot lighter bullets like 40 grainers, but all I have found is people trying to shoot heavier bullets.  The reason I'm asking is it seems like it is getting a little harder to find bullets in the 55-65 grain range.  I would just be using them to shoot at 50-100 yds.

I shoot bullets down to 40 grains in .223 Rem with 7 twist barrels.  It's not a problem.

You'll be fine with lighter bullets.  Hell the 52 and 53 grain match bullets are some of the most accurate for me at 100 yards in both my 1:9 and 1:8 rifles...

There was an article in Handloader magazine about light bullets in the .223.  The author got 1/2 MOA from 40-gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and Hornady V-Maxs in a 1-8" RRA Varmint AR15 and a fast-twist Savage 110.  The AR was more accurate than the Savage BTW.  The only light bullets that gave any problems were the short, light-jacketed 40 and 45 grainer SPs intended for the .22 Hornet.
So stick with Nosler BTs and Hornady V-Max in 40 and avoid ultra-thin jacketed 50-55 grain bullets intended for 1-12" .223s like the 50-gr Speer TNT or Hornady SX.

Speed and varmint explosiveness is very impressive with the good 40s.
