Help me pick which new barrel for my Thompson Center Encore.

I reload, so I am looking for a good .308 diamiter cartridge would consider 7mm cartridges.

Cartridge would need to reach the 300-400 yards on deer to elk sized big game animals.

What I have considered:

.308 Win
.30-06 Springfield
.300 Win Mag
.300 H&H Mag
7mm Remington Mag

but open to other suggestions

Rifle or pistol?

I've shot 7mm Rem Mag in an Encore pistol with a brake; not bad for a couple of shots off a rest.  But, an Encore wouldn't be my choice for any of those cartridges due to recoil.

For versatility amongst those choices, .30-06.

At the distance you mentioned, I would pick the 300 Win mag or the 7MM Mag, but I do prefer 30 caliber...

I am assuming you have an Encore rifle.  I would go .300 Win Mag.
I have a friend with a Win M70 in 7mm STW that has a terrific record on elk.  He is getting a 7mm STW barrel for his Encore rifle, but has to go to an aftermarket barrel maker as T/C doesn't make one in that caliber.  So you might want to check in that direction as well.  You might want to check on the 300 WSM in an aftermarket - in my experience it's recoil is the lightest of the 30 mags and lighter than the 7mm Mag for some reason.
