Can you cast  copper bullets into the steel molds they already have available for lead? Has anybody tried it?

The casting temperature of copper is too high.

I believe silver will work.

What the Lone Ranger used.

Many moons ago, one of the gun rags did an article on trying to cast silver bullets in standard molds. Bottom line was they burned up the blocks in short order and never got acceptable product.

Try pewter.  I've read some accounts of April 19th, 1775 and the authors said some of the colonists used balls cast from pewter.

Don't have a clue what pewter costs, or how hard it might be to get, but it's harder than lead so it should be possible to push it to higher velocities.

Pewter these days is lead free. Typically about 91%Sn, 7.5%Sb and 1.5%Cu. It is about $12 - $15 a pound if you buy virgin alloy. Better to find yard sale plates and tankards and melt them down.

Neat article on casting Silver Bullets

As for copper, probably easiest to have them turned if you're set on them.
