A bit of advice need. I been thinking about outside neck turning my 5.56 brass for my heavy barrel AR. Would there be any advantages in doing so? Any disadvantages? Im real careful about fixen up my brass. Have real good results with my loads and have got my loads down to a 20 shot string into a Quarter sized group. Looken for a tighter group. Like I said before, wondering if outside neck turning would tighten them up.

Not likely if you're shooting 20 shot 1/4 moa groups now.

All you can do is try.

Personally, I would sell the rifle and use the proceeds for another really good gun.

Hmm,, I don't know,, if you're shooting quarter groups,, depending on the brass, it might shave off .050,,, is it worth all that work to you?

How tight is the neck in the barrel?

What do your loaded rounds measure at the neck?

How much runout do you have on your loaded rounds?

If your runout is less than .003" you will probably not gain anything.

For me, all my barrels have "no turn" necks in the barrels.

Switching to Norma brass first would be simpler, too.

I hear what you gents are saying. I do have a a box of new Lapua brass. But keepen it for a rainy day. I guess I do alot of work on my brass. The best brass I have worked on so far is Seller & Ballot which is a bit hard and needs to be anneled and that Partizan nny stuff oh and the R-P. Other than drilling the primer holes out to .060 or 5/64 very little work so far to make the brass the way I want it. I do swager every piece of brass I do. But the above mentioned brass when I work it as far as doing the primer pockets, the flash holes and the trimming, very little metal is removed. Means less work for me. The worest brass for me so far is WCC, Lake City and Wincester. Flash holes are off center, alot of metal is removed from the primer pockets, flash holes and talk about trimming. But Im talking about once fired brass I pick up at the range. I also use a meplat for my bullets. So yep I do do alot of work once, so a bit more wont hurt. But I am rewared with a round that shoots great out of my 16 and 24 heavy barrels. So yep I guess I will outside neck turn about 50 pieces of my brass and see if the groups tighten up a bit more. Its all about shot placement for me! Whats the worse that can happen? My groups open up? If that happens Im gonna chuck the neck turner into the trash can. Then I can tell my buddy he was right. He says "You dont neck turn brass for a gas gun".
