| Hello all, quick question about reloading, and yes, I searched and could not find what I was looking for. I have reloaded handgun ammo for quite some time, I am now however a proud new owner (FINALLY!!! BEFORE OBAMA, THANK GOD!!!) of a Bushmaster AR-15. I have also recently picked up about 2,000 casings of once fired Lake City 2008 brass from our SWAT range and am looking to reload for my AR rifle. My question is, what die set, or how many dies do I need to reload for an autoloading rifle? I have an old Lee Classic Loader for the .223 but I know that will only work for bolt guns. Will the 2 Die set from RCBS work, or do I need the 3 Die set from another company like Dillon? Thanks much and if this is a repeat I am sorry. |

My .223 reloads have been made with Pacific (Hornady) and Lee dies and work in my mini 14 and the only AR I have that I've shot reloads in. Most of the rifle die sets have only 2 dies because you don't have to "bell" the case mouth after resizing like you do on pistol cases.
One case resizes the case, pushes the used primer out and opens up the case mouth a little bit after the resizing. The second die seats the bullets and crimps the case mouth on the bullet. |
| I reload for 5.56, for my two cents, go with the RCBS small base dies if you are loading for the AR, I have regular F/L redding and lee dies and I get stuck cases, when you start spending money because you think it is the barrel or bolt, it was a shot in the dark by getting the sb dies and so far not one single stuck case, I use F/L dies for my M1A and never had a problem with ejecting, all I can say is your call, I hope this helps. |

Does the SB die lessen case life at all, in your experience? |
