hey guys, i recently inhareted a dillion press. i cant honestly tell you what model it is (cant find anything on it that says) it has a powder drop, looks to be a primer tume and a shell counter, holds 4 dies i think. i really dont know to much about it. last time i didn any reloading is when i was about 10 with my dads old rockchucker. this thing has been neglected for a couple years and is kinda loose and wobbly, has some minor surface rust on it. someone sugested that i could send it back to dillion to get it refuberashed so i could start using it? is that possible? i know i need to get some other stuff for it like a stong mout, a ton of dies and bins. but i dont even know what it is. whould i call dillion? post pics? anyone here from dillion? thanks

Go to the Dillon site. They have pictures of all their machines and they are all pretty different. You should have no trouble IDing what you have. They'll have a manual for it available for download as well. Tough to give advice about what machine condition is or what you should do with the information given.

Pick up the phone and call Dillon - they have excellent customer service and will get you straighten out/fixed or repaired if necessary....

Sir, the utility of the press you have depends a lot on your mechanical skills, ability to understand figure out how it works, and skill to recognize where pieces are missing or damaged.  Based on the information you provided in your post I would second the suggestion to seek the advise of Dillon as probably the best near term option.  At least that way you'll have an understanding of what they can do for you and how much it will cost.

Once you have a functional press that has all it's parts and pieces you can figure out what accessories you want.  You didn't mention if the press has a powder measure.  Dies are a certainty depending on how many different cartridges you intend to reload.  A powder scale is essential.  There are a myriad of other accessories that you will need some essential, others optional.  When you call Dillon ask them to put you on their mailing list and send you a copy of their "Blue Press" which is a catalog.  I'm sure they have a web site where you can browse their products.  It sounds like you have either a "Square Deal B" or a "RL-550B".  Without a more detailed description it would be hard to determine.  If it has a removable tool head it's a 550, if not it may be an RL- 450B.  HTH, 7zero1.

yea it has a removable tool head, it came with 3 and 3 sets of dies. i understand its hard to know what it is and what its worth, but i dont have any pics with me here. i was asking because i dont wanna send it to dillion and be charged 150 bucks to have it referbed and it be worth 200 bucks. i have most of the other stuff i need, like a digital scale, powder trickler, stuff like that. i am pretty good with mechanical stuff too.

The Square Deal will only handle popular pistol cartridges and it uses proprietary dies. It is an auto advance press.

The 550 will use any brand of standard dies and is large enough to handle most rifle cartridges. It is a manual advance press. There are also some add ons like a brass feeder available to help speed processing.

The 650 adds an additional station in the tool head and auto advance to the list of 550 features. The additional station can be used for a powder check die, etcc.
